Happy Mothers Day

What an amazing celebration of the Mothers here in Honduras. Growing up in Minnesota, I may have taking advantage of mothers day and not taken the full opportunity to devote the day to her. Here we have noticed that mothers are well celebrated (as well they should be), and everyone takes the advantage of the opportunity.
About a week or two before Mother's Day, I kept getting the question.. "are you ready for Mother's Day or what are you doing for Mother's Day?" Finally I asked one of the house parents (Oscar) "why all the questions or anticipation for mothers and not so much with the fathers?" He straight up told me that the mothers are the ones who raise the kids here in Honduras. If the father has not left the family, he most likely is always traveling for work and is never at home.

So Mothers Day started on Thursday in the High School, Instituto El Rey. One of the Daughters (Irlen) of our house parents invited Monica to come down to her High school as Monica is such a mother influence to her.

The High School kids put on an amazing celebration for all their mothers with music from their band, dramas, dances, and speeches.

On Friday night we also got the privilege to celebrate Mother's Day in our youth service. Jose Rito (above) our musician and worship leader, shared from his heart about his mom and the struggles they went through together. After singing a few songs to his mom, there were very few in the youth service that were not touched.

Next day on Saturday, the elementary school celebrated mothers day in the pueblo that Monica volunteers part of her time at. Because of the relationships she has built in this community they insisted she was part of program to celebrate the students’ mothers.

Monica (with kelly’s help) directing a drama from the students to their mothers.
Monica getting pulled on stage by Lilian (Give Hope 2 Kids) to help with the dance.
Beautiful group of mothers who devote their lives to their children to bring them up to become outstanding adults.

And on Sunday (Mothers Day) Monica woke up to breakfast in bed helped by Kelly our daughter. When she finished she came out to a beautiful surprise from the girls (Pamela left, Irlen right). So blessed to live in such a beautiful country were all the flowers are found right in our back yard.

With the return of Jason and Sara from the city, they brought up a treat for all the mothers on the property. They enjoyed an amazing meal at candlelight and the sound of music played by Jose Rito.

After 4 days of celebrating mothers we still feel that was not enough for all they do. Once again Thank you Mothers for being the Rock and the Foundation of every household.
