Father's day in March

There are many perks living here in the jungle like a natural pool in our backyard, 70 degree winters, awesome soundtrack for sleeping, and so on. The newest perk, we get to celebrate father's day twice a year. Here in Honduras, father's day is celebrated on March 19th every year. This year we waited for the weekend to celebrate the fathers in our property.

Above are Oscar and Will, the proud houseparents of 5 abandoned kids each (without counting their own). Oscar (left) is an experienced construction worker. He takes pride in his work, he is very professional and the definition of a hard worker; in fact, he often takes time in his days off to walk around the property to make sure his work is perfect. Oscar has three biological daughters. After various miscarriages, him and his wife had lost hope of ever having a son. Little did they know they were going to be blessed (in April of last year) with four boys at once... and a three year old girl. Oscar is a great example of responsibility and care for his new boys. 

Will (right) is a former fisherman from El Porvenir, a suburb of La Ceiba. Will's experience with agriculture and small motors makes him a huge asset to the ministry. But the biggest reason he is such an asset is that there is something different in him than in most Honduran men. Compared to your typical Latin men, Will takes an active roll in his kids and new children's life. From education to discipline, he is there to aid his wife Synndia with the care of the kids. Will is a very loving husband and father, and a great role model for his new children.

We were so glad to be able to take a day to celebrate these two men and the other fathers who live and work at Give Hope 2 Kids. During the celebration, Jason shared a speech thanking these wonderful men, and he mentioned something we weren't aware of. He said when he was preparing to open the children's home, he received a lot of great advise. But many people told him, he might be able to find good women who will learn to love and care for the children as their own, but that he will never find men who will do that. Sure enough, God has blessed this ministry and brought in the right men for the job.
