This blog is intended to keep people informed about our efforts of preparing ourselves on a journey God has laid on our hearts of joining the organization Give Hope 2 Kids and help out the Furrow family in building a home for children in rural Honduras. We went to visit Jason and Sarah Furrow in the beginning of March 2011 and fell in love with their vision of starting up an orphanage in Cangrejal River Valley on the Northern coast of Honduras.
There is an estimated 170,000 children in Honduras who are considered to be orphaned or abandoned. Most of these are children who are abandoned by their parents. The organization’s goal is to help as many children in need as possible.
So far, Give Hope 2 Kids has purchased 100 acres in the Cangrejal Valley for the purpose of starting a home to care for orphaned and abandoned children. Since then the Furrows have planted 10 acres of Mahogany trees, installed their own water supply, which entailed running more than one half mile of pvc pipe, connected electricity to the property, built the first three homes for children, and planted more than three hundred fruit trees. And they have plans to make the orphanage mostly self sufficient. All these projects and spending time with the kids and the community is a vision we feel fortunate to be a part of.
As of now, we are preparing to join GH2K by selling our house and raising support for our mission.
Check this blog for the most recent updates in our progress to achieve our goal. Help us make a difference in rural Honduras and the lives of orphaned and abandoned kids.
