The end of the school year

As we now are wrapping up the end of the school year for elementary schools here in Honduras, we also decided  to wrap up our after school classes for the year. These past few months of English, computer, music, reading, tutoring and bible classes have been a success in our communities. The volunteer staff here at GH2K, has invested an incredible amount of time and effort into this program, where we were able to effectively input into the education and spiritual lives of over fifty kids from San Luis, Urraco and Toncontin.

But the greatest reason for the success of this program, was the motivation of 50+ children. We are so proud of each one of them for investing in their own education. We are so proud of the San Luis students; they had the longest and hardest hike to get here, yet they were always here and on time! We are so proud of the Urraco kids, who didn't take for granted this opportunity and improved their grades far beyond from their previous trimesters held at their own school. We are so proud of the Toncontin kids for sacrificing most of their time traveling either by bike or hitching a bus ride back and forth.
The fact is, all the kids who attended these classes WANTED to be here, and they did their best at it. They did an outstanding job, and we wanted to reward them all. So for their last day, we had an award ceremony for the most outstanding grades, participation and attendance. Followed by a movie with pop corn, candy and Pepsi for everyone (wherever there's a party there's Pepsi!)
Started with a word of prayer

These guys heard there was candy, so they crashed the party!

Although we wanted to reward everyone, we are only giving an extra reward to those students who earned an award that day. We are taking them on a field trip to La Ceiba! we will go to the mall and commrcial areas, eat in a restaurant with a play area and swim in the hot springs. These guys have made us proud, this is the least we could do for them.
